The only way to get to Candal is by car  and compared with the other shale villages (aldeias de xisto), Candal has better accessibility, since it is located by the National Road 236. It is located at a distance of 167km (~103 miles) from Porto and 233km (~144 miles) from Lisbon. According to the GPS Candal is to N 40º 04' 50.78'' , W 8º 12' 12.15".

What to do in Candal?

This village is ideal for those who like to go hiking in the middle of nature.

The route begins next to the restaurant-shop “Sabores da Aldeia”, the “finishing line” is the viewpoint of the village and the reward for the walk will be a breathtaking view over the valley. The pedestrian route, despite being composed of several climbs, is easy and pleasant to do. But ... it's not a circular route, so … despite the view, what goes up must come down!
